About 5
years ago I started wanting to take control of how much of an environmental
impact I was having and decided to become a vegetarian. Since then I have attempted to make a stand
in various other aspects of my life; I gave up buying new clothes for 2 years
and would instead get charity shop finds or swish items. Recently I have been reigniting my passion
for sewing and have start to make and refashion my own clothes. Sewing is something I have always done in a
small way but its started to become a much bigger part of my life in the last
18 months. I feel that making some of
what I wear will cut down on the amount I support the fashion industries planetary
impact but also at the very least I can guarantee my item of clothing has not
been stitched in appalling conditions by a 6 year old in India.
On a
lighter note, I have been following lots of fabulous sewing blogs recently and
have been so amazed and inspired by the work that is going on by all the lovely
sewists around the world. I wanted
something to document and structure my new sewing journey and so with the
encouragement of my fabulous colleague and sewist Katy (www.Sleeksilhouette.com) and
my super stylish friend Ziz (www.Betteontoast.blogspot.co.uk) I decided to start this blog.
Thanks for reading
and I’m excited to share my sewing (and all my other) adventures
with you.
